Managing Symbols in a Diagram View

Creating Symbols From Shapes

In a diagram view, you can create a symbol from a shape and assign it to a component. This symbol can comprise several shapes and texts.


Before you begin: For the purpose of the scenario, the following elements are necessary:
  • In a tree, a component to which the shape will be assigned.
  • In a diagram view, one or several shapes that will be used to create the symbol.
  1. In the diagram view, select one or several shapes.
  2. In the Create Symbol from Shape dialog box, click Select and select the component to be mapped with the symbol.
    The reference of the selected component appears in the Selected Object box.
  3. If necessary, modify the manipulator position to define the position of the origin.

    Note: By default, the manipulator is positioned at the center of symbol's bounding box.

  4. Click OK.
    The new symbol is created and mapped to the selected component. If shapes attributes such as stretch ability, color have been defined, they are kept.
