Connecting a Mechanism to a Bone

You can connect one or more bones to a mechanism.

This allows you to determine how the human model moves with respect to the mechanism.

For example, you can simulate the hand movements while turning a steering wheel.

Before you begin: Make sure the human model and the mechanisms are on the same level in the product structure.
  1. In the tree, under the product structure, select the human you want to connect to the mechanism.

For more information about mechanisms, see Mechanical Systems Design User's Guide.

  2. From the Human section of the action bar, click Mechanism Connection .
The Human Mechanism Connection panel appears.

    Number Interface Element Description
1 Mechanism representation Automatically displays the selected mechanism.

If there are several mechanisms, you can select another one in the list.

To remove all the connections of a bone, click

2 List of bones Displays the list of bones that can be connected.

You can only connect inverse kinematics (IK) bones.

To remove a connection of a specific bone, click

3 Mechanism Player Lets you run and control the simulation preview.
  3. In the tree or in the 3D area, choose a bone and then select a mechanism.
  4. To run the simulation preview, click .
  5. In the Mechanism Player, use the controls to animate your mechanism.

Important: This functionality only works with kinematics simulations.

For more information about simulating the motion of assembly mechanisms, see Mechanical Systems Experience User's Guide.
