Spool Rule

This section describes the Spool Rule tables and how you can customize them.

This page discusses:

Overview

This section provides a brief overview of the Spool Rule table.

The Spool Rule table lists three parameters: Part Subtype, End Style and Behavior. The behavior indicates wether a particular combination is to be:

  • forbidden in spool: the combination is not included in any spool but further navigation to add a part in the spool is stopped.
  • border of spool: the combination is included in the spool but further navigation to add a part in the spool is stopped.
  • inside spool: the combination is included in the spool and further navigation to add a part in the spool goes on.

Important: The spelling of these three values must be respected otherwise the table will not be analyzed by the app.

If the table does not exist, the navigation stops at the next junction.

In Data Setup, this table should be assigned to:

  • when using file-based tables, the Spool Rule item in the resource table of HVAC Design Resources.
  • when using Engineering Specification objects, a specification in the resource table of HVAC Specification Resources.

Table Description

This section describes the customization options of the Spool Rule table.

By default, all couples are Inside the spool.

The priority of search is the following:

  • exact couple : Part Subtype, End Style
  • couple "Part Subtype, *"
  • couple "*, End Style"

Important: The combination Part Subtype, *, Border of spool is considered as Forbidden in spool.

File-Based Table

A typical Spool Rule file-based table is shown below:

Part Subtype End Style Behavior
Cross * Forbidden in spool
Sleeve * Inside the spool
Tee * Inside the spool
Union * Inside the spool
Elbow * Inside the spool
Sleeve S1 Inside the spool
Ball Valve * Forbidden in spool
Ball Valve RING JOIN Border of spool

Engineering Specification Table

A typical HVAC Spool Rule Table is shown below:

Physical Part Subtype End Style Behavior
Cross * Forbidden in spool
Sleeve * Inside the spool
Tee * Inside the spool
Union * Inside the spool
Elbow * Inside the spool
Sleeve S1 Inside the spool
Ball Valve * Forbidden in spool
Ball Valve RING JOIN Border of spool

The columns definitions are as follow:

Column Name Column Type Link to Table Link to Column
Physical Part Subtype String Part Subtype Physical Part Subtype
End Style String End Style End Style
Behavior String - -

The table has the following attribute:

  • Standard

Sample Resource File

This section explains where to find the sample resource file.

The default location of XXX_AssistedSpool.xls is:

..\startup\EquipmentAndSystems\HVAC\Specification\

and then the relevant specification, such as NonSpec.
