Deforming a Shape Using Control Points

You can deform a curve or a surface by moving its control points.

You can move control points, mesh lines, or both. You can restrict the direction or plane of movement.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Open a 3D shape.

Deform Moving Individual Control Points

You can deform a surface by moving control points in a direction normal to the Robot.

  1. From the Modification section of the action bar, click Control Points .
    The Control Points dialog box appears.
  2. In the Support area of the Control Points dialog box, select a support, for example Normal to Robot .
  3. Click Points only .
  4. Select an element.
    Control points and mesh are displayed.
  5. Select one control point or, if required, more control points by pressing Ctrl.
    A handle is displayed on the last selected control point.

  6. Drag the handle.
    The selected control points are moved and the element is deformed locally.

  7. Optional: Edit the patch orders using the Nu: and Nv: order labels.
    Tips:
    • Right-click the labels to activate the Order context menu. Select Link Orders to have identical orders in U and V direction.
    • Right-click in the work area anytime during the creation, as long as the selection is not finished, and select Edit Orders in the context menu.
  8. Click OK.


Deform Moving Control Point Rows

You can deform a surface by moving control point rows.

  1. Click Control Points .
    The Control Points dialog box appears.
  2. In the Support area of the Control Points dialog box, select a support, for example Normal to Robot .
  3. Click Mesh only .
  4. Select an element.
  5. Select a control point row by clicking a mesh line between two control points or, if required, more control point rows by pressing Ctrl.
    A handle is displayed on the last selected control point row.

  6. Drag the handle.
    The selected control point rows are moved and the element is deformed along the length of the control point row.

  7. Click OK.
