Break Surface Dialog Box

The Break Surface dialog box appears when you click Break Surface in the Primary Area of the Edition section.

This dialog box contains controls for:

General

Report
Displays a status about cutting elements:
  • Cutting elements you can use for the break (marked by a green tip).

When you click the text, the corresponding curve highlights in green.

  • Cutting elements that you cannot use for the break (marked by the condition to apply so that you can use them for a projection for example.)

When you click the text, the corresponding curve highlights in red.

  • When a red cross appears, it means that the app cannot manage the problem.
  • When there is no selection of cutting elements, an error message appears and the Break Report dialog box informs you that no element is selected.

Selection

Elements
Defines the set of surfaces to be cut.
Limitation
Defines the set of limiting elements: points, curves, planes, or surfaces.
Notes:
  • You cannot break a multi-cell body using a cutting element at the cell boundary.
  • If you perform a trap selection in the model, all included elements will be selected. If no modifier pressed, the current selection is emptied and only the included elements in the trap are selected. If Ctrl is pressed while creating the trap, the included elements are added to the current selection.

In case of selection by trap, only valid elements are selected in the Elements and Limitation boxes.

Fragment
Breaks the surfaces by its segment boundaries in UV directions.
Invert Selection
Swaps the content selected in the Elements and Limitation boxes.
Break Both
Breaks elements to be cut and limiting elements by each other.
Disassemble Result
Disassembles the resultant multi-cell/domain bodies into mono-cell bodies.

Trim Type

Face Trim
Surfaces are topologically relimited and the control points of the initial surfaces are kept.
Surface Trim
Surfaces are geometrically relimited and the control points of the resulting surfaces are kept.
Order
Important: Only applicable with Surface Trim option.
Keep Order
Keeps the order of the result elements same as that of the original element.
U:
Defines the U order for shorten mesh option.
V:
Defines the V order for shorten mesh option.

Projection

Along Robot
Projects along the Robot direction.
Along Normal
Projects along the normal direction.
Along Viewing Direction
Projects along the viewing direction.

Extrapolation

The following extrapolation options are available:

Tangential Extrapolation
Extrapolates the curve along the tangent direction.
Curvature Extrapolation
Extrapolates the curve along the curvature direction.
Parametric Extrapolation
Extrapolates the curve along the parametric direction.
IsoUV Extrapolation
Extrapolates the curve along the isoparametric U/V direction.

Notes:
  • The curve can be a cutting element or an intersection curve between surfaces of the cutting element and the element to be cut.
  • Extrapolation is done from both sides of curve.
  • If there is no intersection between surfaces of the cutting element and the element to be cut, the extrapolation options even if available, do not have any effect.

Deviation

Deviation Mode
Defines whether the deviation is displayed or not.
Max Deviation
Displays the maximal deviation between original and resultant surface in the dialog box and on the geometry.
Edge Deviation
Displays the deviation on edge.
