Defining the Continuity to keep at Opposite End Points or Edges

You can specify continuity constraints at source and target curve end points or surface edges.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • In Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Object Properties > 3D Shape > Display, 3D Shape Infrastructure tab, Display in Tree section, select Constraints to see the constraints in the tree.
  • Open a 3D shape containing two surfaces with high orders.

Create a Matching Constraint with Free Continuity at the Source Opposite Edge

  1. From the Modification section of the action bar, click Matching Constraint .
  2. Select Source and Target.
  3. Select G1 Exact and deselect Diffusion .

    Tip: In the App Options panel, select Furtive Display to display the control point mesh when the Matching Constraint command is active.

  4. Click Apply.
    The source is connected with G1 continuity to the target. Only two control point rows are moved.

  5. Undo the last step.
  6. Select Diffusion .
    The Source Opposite options are enabled. In the work area, a continuity label appears at the opposite source edge.
  7. Right-click the label and select Free continuity (F).
  8. Click Apply.

All control points including the opposite edge are moved.

Create a Matching Constraint with Specified Continuity at the Source Opposite Edge

  1. Undo the last step of the previous task.
  2. Select G2 Exact and G2 for Source Opposite.
  3. Click Apply.
    The source is connected G2 continuous to the target and G2 continuity is kept at the opposite edge.

  4. Undo the last step.
  5. Change the source order in v-direction to five and click Apply.

The source is connected G2 continuous to the target. At the opposite edge, only G1 continuity is kept, as with the current order, no higher continuity is possible (the continuity with the target has priority over the continuity set at the opposite edge).

The actually applied continuity is displayed in the Source Opposite area of the dialog box. In the context menu at the continuity label, the applied continuity is marked with two asterisks.

Create a Matching Constraint with Specified Continuity at the Target Opposite Edge

  1. Undo the last step of the previous task and restore the original order.
  2. Select Mean in the Both area.
    The Target Opposite options are enabled and the continuity label is displayed at the opposite edge of the target surface.
  3. Select G2 Target Opposite continuity.
  4. Click Apply.
    The source is connected G2 continuous to the target and G2 continuity is kept at the target opposite edge.

  5. Cancel the Matching Constraint command and change the target order in v-direction to five using the Control Points command.
  6. Create a matching constraint with the settings from the previous steps.
    At the target opposite edge, only G1 continuity is kept, as with the current order, no higher continuity is possible.

    The actually applied continuity is displayed in the Target Opposite area in the dialog box. In the context menu at the continuity label, the applied continuity is marked with two asterisks (**).
