Analyzing Using Highlights

You can create a highlight surface diagnosis on shaded surfaces.

Note: If the quality of the shaded analysis display is not satisfying, select the following in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > 2D 3D View Display > Selection:
  • Highlight section: Glow
  • Prehighlight section: XOR

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape containing surfaces and select Shading with Material in the View section of the action bar.

About Highlights
  1. From the Analysis section of the action bar, click Highlight Analysis .
  2. Select surfaces.
    OptionDescription
    Elements You can select individual elements or geometrical sets.
    Display List You can select a display list. All elements in this list are used as input.

    If the selected display list is modified, the analysis is updated automatically.

    For more information, see Working with Display Lists.
    Global Applies the highlight analysis to all surfaces of the part, including surfaces created after the analysis definition.
  3. In the Type area, select the Color.
    OptionDescription
    Highlight The width of the brightness flow depends on the Shine. The brightness is amplified exponentially with increasing shine factor.
    Colored Displays the highlight lines in different colors.
    Black and White Displays the highlight lines in black and white with constant width.

    A shine factor cannot be defined.
  4. In the Type area, select the Projection.
    OptionDescription
    Beam Calculates the highlight lines directly from the light beam of the parallel light source.

    You can modify the direction of the light beam using the handle.
    Cylinder Creates the highlight lines by reflection of stripes on the interior side of an imaginary cylinder around the geometry.

    You can modify the cylinder axis using the compass tool.
  5. Optional: In the Options area, select Anti-Aliasing .
    The edges of the highlight lines are smoothed.
