Creating Helical Surfaces

You can create helical surfaces from wireframe geometry.

Before you begin: Open a 3D shape containing two curves and a point to be used as Starting Point on the curve to be used as Guide.
  1. From the Surface section of the action bar, click Helix .
  2. Select successively the Guide, the Starting Point and the Direction (axis of rotation).

  3. In the Rotation area, specify an angle of 0deg in the Start box and an angle of 90deg in the End box.
  4. In the Pitch area, specify a Length of 0 mm.
  5. Click Apply.

  6. Select the start and end angle handles to modify the angles.

  7. Select the pitch position handle and draw it along the axis of rotation.

  8. Right-click on the End box and select the Range Edit... in the context menu.
By default, the input range for start and end angle is from 0deg to 360deg.
  9. In the Sup. Range box, specify an angle of 720deg and close the dialog box.
  10. In the End box, specify an end angle of 450deg.
