About Creating OmniPlanes

This section deals with basic concepts you should know before creating planes using the OmniPlane command.

Creating OmniPlanes

You can use different input entities to define an OmniPlane.

Different to other ICEM Design Experience commands using selector panels, it is recommended to first activate the OmniPlane command which opens the OmniPlane selector panel and then select the input entities.

In the selector panel, the following solutions are offered, depending on the selected input entities:

Type Selection Origin and orientation
One point plane arbitrary point origin selected point
normal normal of previous current plane
Two points plane 2 arbitrary points origin 1 st point
normal direction vector from point 1 to 2
Three points plane 3 arbitrary points origin 1 st point
x-axis direction vector from point 1 to 2
One point+direction plane point on curve or surface origin point on curve or surface
normal
  • on curve: tangent in the curve point
  • on surface: normal in the surface point
(Point+direction)+point plane
  1. point on curve or surface
  2. arbitrary point
origin 1 st point on curve or surface
normal
  • on curve: tangent in the curve point
  • on surface: normal in the surface point
x-axis direction vector from point 1 to 2
Point+(point+direction) plane
  1. arbitrary point
  2. point on curve or surface
origin 1 st point on curve or surface
normal
  • on curve: tangent in the curve point
  • on surface: normal in the surface point
x-axis direction vector from point 1 to 2
Trace plane 2 arbitrary points origin 1 st point
normal parallel to view plane
Symmetry plane
  1. 1 st point on 1 st curve or surface
  2. 2 nd point on 2 nd curve or surface
origin centrally at the shortest distance between point 1 and 2
origin centrally at the shortest distance between point 1 and 2
Plane from two lines
  1. 1 st point on 1 st curve or surface
  2. 2 nd point on 2 nd curve or surface
origin Centrally at the shortest distance between 2 non-parallel and non-coplanar running lines.

In case of curves, the tangents in the selected points are virtually extended.
