About Organizing Geometric Elements

This section deals with basic concepts to know before beginning with creating geometry and organizing the geometric elements.

Important: Organize requires a Geometrical Set, and you cannot use it within a Partbody or an Ordered Geometrical Set.

The Organize system is based on three kinds of entities: Frames, display lists, and select sets.

  • Frames are groups of elements that define how the geometry is displayed in the scene.

You can set the frames to the Active , Template , or No Show mode. The current frame highlights and is automatically set to Active .

In other CAD systems, you know frames as layers.

  • Display Lists are groups of elements that define what is displayed in the scene.

    There are two default entries:

    • "None": Selects no display list and disables the frame modes.
    • "MASTER": Displays all elements of frames that are set to Active .

You cannot delete the "None" and "MASTER" display lists.

The current display list highlights and newly created elements add to this list.

Display lists are the equivalent of lists in ICEM Surf.

  • Select Sets are the same as display lists but stored separately for convenient access. So you can quickly and comfortably reuse stored selections.

Differing from display lists, select sets can contain all kinds of entities, both objects and subobjects.

Important: An element is only visible if these conditions apply:
  • The Hide/Show mode in the tree is set to Show.
  • The associated frame is set to Active or Template .
  • The element belongs to the current display list.
