Exporting Data to IFC

You can export 3DEXPERIENCE content to Industry Class Foundation (IFC) files.

  1. Select the required export options in Preferences.

    See IFC for more information.

  2. Select Share > Export.

    See Export for more information.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, select IFC as the format, and enter the path of the result file.
A progress bar displays the total number of objects to create and the number of already created objects.

    The Converter for IFC supports:

    • IFC structure elements
    • AEC structures elements
    • Facetted BREP solids
    • Procedural geometry (based on 2D profiles)
    • IFC 2x3 property sets
    • Compressed IFC files (*ifczip)
    • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • Mapping of IFC 2x3 data to IFC 4 data (required to support AEC).
    Notes:
    • Regarding names:
      • The root object is exported with the reference name. The reference name is not exported as such.
      • Other export IFC Objects take the instance name.
      • Extensions defined on instances are exported and attached to the IFC Object as PSet or Qto.
Note: Pset and Qto cannot be retrieved and attached to the instance while re-importing the file. They are associated to the reference.
    • Transparency is supported for IfcFacetedBrep, IfcFacetedBrepWithVoids, and classes derived from IfcSveptAreaSolid.
    • Transparency is not supported for IfcFaceBasedSurfaceModel and IfcShellBasedSurfaceModel.
    • Color overload is not supported on product structure, only at geometry level. To keep a color overload, set the color on the geometry, not on the representation.
    • Geometry contained in CATWires (curves) is not supported.
    • Building generated by Buildings Space Planning and Buildings and Civil Structures Design cannot be exported as such. They must be converted into a full AEC-BIM structure using Generate BIM Product Structure.

See Introductory Concepts for more information.
