Moving Along Normals

You can translate vertices along their normal, as if performing a local offset.

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing a subdivision surface.
  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Modification .
  2. Optional: Click the surface.
  3. From the Tools Palette, click Local Normals .
  4. Select the central vertices on the mesh.

  5. Move the selected vertices along their own local normal.
You can see that the translation value along with its unit is displayed. Thus you have a complete control on the distance to be translated.

Note: The translation value is not displayed if you have selected No Show Coord .
  6. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new position of the surface.
