Scaling a Surface

You can scale a surface along one or more axes.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Create a 3D shape containing a subdivision surface.

Scale Along One Axis

You can scale a surface along one axis.

  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Modification .
  2. From the Tools Palette, click Affinity .
A 3D box appears around the selection.
  3. Click the surface to position the handles depending on the pointer position.
  4. Move the pointer to highlight the desired axis and drag one of the axes to affine the elements.
You can see that the scaling value is displayed. Thus you have complete control on how much to scale a surface.

Note: The scaling value is not displayed if you have selected No Show Coord .
  5. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new position of the surface.

Scale Along Two Axes

You can scale a surface along two axes.

  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Modification .
  2. From the Tools Palette, click Affinity .
A 3D bounding box appears around the selection.
  3. Click the surface to position the handles depending on the pointer position.
  4. Move the pointer to highlight the desired axis.
  5. Select the arc of circle and move the mouse to affine the elements.
You can see that the scaling value is displayed. Thus you have complete control on how much to scale a surface.

Note: The scaling value is not displayed if you have selected No Show Coord in the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar.
  6. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new position of the surface.

Scale Along Three Axes

You can scale a surface along three axes.

  5. Press Ctrl and move the mouse to affine the elements.

Note: The scaling value is not displayed if you have selected No Show Coord in the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar.
Tip: You can select any axis or handle: the scaling will still be performed along the three axes.
  6. Release the pointer when you are satisfied with the new position of the surface. The surface can now look like this:
Important: The dimension corresponding to the selected handle is highlighted during scaling. You can see that when scaling along one axis, a single dimension is highlighted. When scaling along two axes, two dimensions are highlighted, while three dimensions are highlighted when scaling along three axes.
