Defining a Symmetry Using a Plane

You can define two symmetric zones using a plane as a constraint.

Before you begin: Create a shape containing a subdivision surface. Make sure that there is no existing constraint.
  1. From the Shape Sculpt section of the action bar, click Symmetric Plane Constraint .
  2. Select the surface.

  3. To manipulate the plane, move the cyan arrow.

  4. From the Tools Palette, click one of the following:
    OptionDescription
Reset All Constraints Resets all constraints.
    Deactivate Deactivates the current constraint.
Robot Definition Modifies the origin and orientation of the Robot and exits the Robot definition to return to the previous function.
Reset Robot Resets the orientation of the Robot to the model axis.
Pick Lets you select another plane that does not belong to the surface.
    Plane Translation Translates the plane.
    Plane Rotation Rotates the plane.
Side Selection Switches the symmetry side.
    Apply (Enter) Validates the command.

One the mesh is constrained, any further operation on one side of the mesh will be performed symmetrically on the other side.
