Showing/Hiding Hooking Points

You can display or hide hooking points when the Interface-based Connection command is active to ease the positioning of products.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Create or open an assembly product.
  • Create mechanical interfaces under different components. For more information, see Part Design User's Guide: Working with Mechanical Interfaces: Creating a Basic Mechanical Interface.

Display all the Hooking Points

The default visualization mode displays all the hooking points so as to connect products more easily.

  1. From the Mechanical Systems Design section of the action bar, click Interface-based Connection .

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Select a hooking point to place.
Only the hooking points compatible with your selection are displayed.
  3. Select a target hooking point.
The target component joins the other. An engineering connection is created.
  4. Optional: To refine positioning, use the Robot.

The Robot makes rulers available to increase accuracy.

The component is moved with respect to the constraint.
  5. Click anywhere in the 3D area.
The engineering connection is created and visible under the engineering connections node in the tree.

Hide the Hooking Points Only for the Selected Component

You can hide the hooking points if you do not need them.

After selecting this visualization mode, when saving the product, the hooking points remain hidden when reopening the product.

  1. From the Mechanical Systems Design section of the action bar, click Interface-based Connection .

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Select a component to place.
Only the hooking points of this component are displayed.
  3. Select a hooking point to place.
Only the hooking points compatible with your selection are displayed.
  4. Select a target component.
Only the compatible hooking points of this component are displayed.
  5. Select a target hooking point.
The target component joins the other. An engineering connection is created.
  6. Optional: To refine positioning, use the Robot.

The Robot makes rulers available to increase accuracy.

The component is moved with respect to the constraint.
  7. Click anywhere in the 3D area.
The engineering connection is created and visible under the engineering connections node in the tree.

Show Hooking Points by Hovering Over Components

You can display overfly hooking points.

  1. From the Mechanical Systems Design section of the action bar, click Interface-based Connection .

    The Options dialog box appears.

  2. Hover over the component to place.
Only the hooking points of this component are displayed.
  3. Select a hooking point to place.
Only the hooking points compatible with your selection are displayed.
  4. Hover over a target component.
