Creating Traces

Geometric Trace creates traces that collectively plot the position of the selected element at each step in the simulation.

Before you begin:
  • Generate the scenario results of a kinematics simulation to have them appear under the Result node.
  • Set the scenario result you want to trace as current. To set the scenario result as the current one, right-click it, and select Set as Current.
  1. In the tree, select the scenario result you want to trace.
  2. Select the elements (points, vertex, curves, or edges) in the model you want to trace.

These elements can be selected from any geometry (sketch, wireframe, solid and surface).

  3. Optional: Select the Reference product.
Note: The motion of the trace will be relative to the motion of the reference product.
  4. Click OK.
The trace opens in a new tab. In the kinematics simulation tab, Geometric Trace appears in the tree under the current scenario result.
  5. To display an existing trace in a new tab, right-click the trace representation in the tree and select Display Representation.
  6. To update a trace, right-click the trace in the tree, and do either of the following:
    • Select Update to update not only the scenario and its results, but also the products and assemblies.
Note: The process may be time consuming, especially for large models.
    • Select Local Update to only update the scenario and the selected post-processing (traces).
The trace opens in a new tab. In the kinematics simulation tab, Geometric Trace is updated.
