Creating a Rule for Law Excitations

You can create and associate a Knowledge rule to a law excitation to drive a command in your mechanism. Based on the selected parameters, the simulation determines the configuration of the mechanism for each time increment of the kinematics or dynamics scenario. Unlike formulas, rules can combine different functions.

Before you begin: Open a simulation with at least one law excitation.

  1. From the Compass, select 3D Modeling Apps and then Engineering Rules Capture.
  2. From the Engineering Rules Capture section of the action bar, click Rule .
  3. In the Rule Editor dialog box, enter a name and click OK.

Tip: To create the rule in a specific relation set, specify a destination.

  4. To specify the parameters, do one of the following:
    • Enter the rule script in the box.
    • From the Dictionary list, select one or several functions.

Tip: Every function already created is available in the Members of all column in the Rule Editor dialog box.
Important: To ensure consistency during the simulation, assign a value to each time increment.

  5. Click OK.
  6. From the Compass, select 3D Modeling Apps and then Mechanical Systems Experience.
  7. To edit the rule:
    1. Double-click the law excitation in the tree.
    2. In the Law Excitation dialog box, click the Rule Editor icon .

You can now use existing rules to create different law excitations.
