Creating an External Parameter Pointing to an Attribute

You can create external parameters that point to the attributes of a reference or a representation.

Any reference or representation attribute is a possible target for a parameter on attributes. Once the parameter is created, it can be used in formulas or rules as any other Knowledgeware parameter. This parameter is integrated to the update mechanism.

Notes:
  • External parameters are read-only.
  • The modification of an attribute that is not in session cannot be detected by the parameter pointing to this attribute until you open the associated representation.
  • You cannot create external parameters on instance attributes.
  • You cannot create an external parameter on an attribute belonging to the representation containing the external parameter.

Before you begin:

You must have created a product.

  2. Click Select from Current Editor , and select your root product.
The dialog box is populated with the available attributes.
    Notes:
    • Select from Current Editor enables you to select references, representations and features with parameters.
    • Search Reference from Database displays a Chooser enabling you to select a reference.
    • Search Representation from Database displays a Chooser enabling you to select a representation.

Once a component has been selected, the result list displays the attributes or parameters that can be referenced through an external parameter.

  3. Select one of the attributes and click Create.
  4. Optional: Edit the parameter name in the Parameter name box and click Create.
