Referring to External Parameters in a Formula

You can use parameters defined in external documents in a formula. External parameters can also be used when working within an assembly. This task shows you how to use external parameters in a formula.


Before you begin: Make sure that the Keep link with selected object option is checked (Me > Preferences > 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Common Preferences > General > 3D Shape Infrastructure > External References).

About Parameters
  1. Open two documents containing geometry and tile the window.
  2. Make one of the documents active and click Formula .
  3. Create a parameter of Length type for example and click Add Formula.
    The Formulas editor appears.
  4. In the other document, select a geometrical feature in the tree.
    The External parameter selection dialog box is displayed.
  5. In the External parameter selection dialog box, select the one of the features in the external parameters list and click OK.
    The parameter definition is carried forward to the formula editor.
  6. Complete the formula definition.
  7. Click OK in the Formulas editor.
    You are back to the Formulas dialog box. From the parameter list, the parameter value is modified according to the formula specified. The External Parameters node is added to the tree.
  8. Click OK to add the formula to the document and exit the dialog box.
  9. From the Tools section, click Links & Relations .
    The displayed dialog box confirms that there is a link between the objects in both documents.
    Note: You can click Isolate link so that both parameters are totally independent from each other.
