Adding a Parameter to a Feature

You can add parameters directly to a feature, which enables you to follow the life cycle of this feature. If you delete it, the parameter is also deleted. This function also enables you to better organize parameters.

  1. In the tree, select the root feature, and from the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps , and select Engineering Rules Capture.
  2. Select the feature to which you want to add a parameter.
  3. Click Parameter Explorer .
  4. From the New Parameter of Type list, select the type for the parameter you want to create.
  5. Click OK.
    The parameter is displayed in the tree right below the feature.

Important: Parameters added using the Parameter Explorer are displayed right below the feature they are assigned to.

Example

In the example below, you are going to add a parameter to a pad.

  1. In the tree, select the root feature, and from the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps , and select Engineering Rules Capture.
  2. In the tree, select the pad.
  3. Click Parameter Explorer .
  4. From the New Parameter of Type list, select the String type, then in the opposite box ('With'), select Multiple Values. Click New Parameter of Type.
  5. In the Value list dialog box:
    • Enter Type1 and press Enter.
    • Enter Type2 and press Enter.
    • Click OK to go back to the Parameter Explorer editor.
  6. If need be, rename the created parameter in the Local Name box and add a comment.
  7. From the New Parameter of Type list, select the Mass type, then in the opposite box ('With'), select the Single Value item. Click New Parameter of Type.

    The Mass.1 name appears by default in the Properties Local Name box and a default value of 0kg is assigned to the created parameter.

  8. Modify these values.
  9. Click OK.

    Both parameters are displayed in the tree right below the Pad.
