Inserting a Building Component

Position Component lets you insert a building component in your building project.

  1. Click Select Component and select a component from the list.

    To see the component listing, expand the component type node.

    Tip: To re-import and update the list of components, Ctrl + select a component in the Insert Component list.

  2. Select a building face or a surface.

    Note: To insert a component on a specific story, double-click the story in the tree.

  3. To restrict the placement of a wall hosted component to the specified sill height above the story, select the Lock Sill Height check box.

    Note: You can click Sill Reference and select a horizontal plane or a building surface as the reference elevation for the sill height.

  4. Drag the component to a position and click to insert.
  5. To exit the edit mode for the last position component and to insert another component, click Insert Component .
  6. To insert copies of the component with same parameter values without pausing to edit each component, click Repeat Insert .

    Note: You need to click the command again to deactivate it.

  7. To modify the dimensions of the last inserted component, click Edit Component .
  8. Align the component with a surface.
    • To rotate a floor-hosted component by 90 degrees in counterclockwise direction, click Snap Rotate . If you move the component near a surface, it will align the component to that surface.
      Tip: You can also press the down arrow to rotate the component and align it to the surface.
    • To rotate a floor-hosted component by 90 degrees in clockwise direction, click Snap Rotate . If you move the component near a surface, it will align the component to that surface.
  9. Click Sizing and specify the sizing values for the selected building component.
  10. To search and select a component from a Collaborative Space, click Search Component , select the component, and double-click to place it.
  11. To move the existing building components to a different parent product, perform the following steps:

    1. Ctrl + select the components that are to be moved to a different parent product.
    2. Click Multi-edit, and then click Parent Product .
    3. Select a node in the tree for the parent product.
      Note: You can also create a new node in the tree for the parent product.

  12. To place the wall components from top view, perform the following steps:

    1. From the Standard section of the action bar, click View Selector , and select top view.
    2. Select the edge of the wall to place the wall components at sill height.
    3. To place the same component on a different wall face, remove the selected wall face from the selection list and choose a different wall face without exiting the command.

  13. Click OK .
