Space Browser Options

The Space Browser provides options for grouping, filtering, viewing, and placing spaces.

To access the Space Browser, from the Building section of the action bar, click Space Browser .

The Space Browser contains four buttons that function like tabs. Each tab has one or more lists and a check box. Space Browser uses your responses to these options to filter its display. As you move through the tabs, many of the lists are repeated and are used to further filter the display. The definitions for each list are basically the same for all lists.
Option Description
Departments

This tab displays departments as listed in your space requirements and the spaces in the project. You can filter the list based on your selection from the tab for Show All. When you click a department in the department list, Space Browser opens the Sub-Departments tab, filtered by the clicked department.

Preferences for Show All are:

  • Show All lists all departments from your space requirements and from spaces placed in the building.
  • Show Placed lists the departments containing at least one space placed in the building.
  • Show Unplaced lists the departments with at least one unplaced spaces.
  • Show Discrepancies lists the departments with at least one space whose area differs from the space plan. To set the space to the original dimensions, right-click on the space and click Use Plan Area.
Sub-Departments

This tab displays the sub-department as defined in your space requirements and the spaces in the project. You filter the sub-department based on your selection from the Department tab and Show All. When you click a sub-department from the sub-department list for the tab, Space Browser opens the Space types tab, which is now filtered on the selected sub-department.

The filtering preferences for the Sub-Departments tab are:

  • Departments preferences are a listing of departments from your space requirements.
  • Show All preferences are:
    • Show All lists all sub-departments from your space requirements and from spaces placed in the building.
    • Show Placed lists the sub-departments with at least one space placed in the building.
    • Show Unplaced lists the sub-departments with at least one unplaced space.
    • Show Discrepancies lists the sub-departments with at least one space whose area differs from the space plan. To set the space to the original dimensions, right-click on the space and click Use Plan Area.

Space types

This tab displays the space types as defined in your space requirements and the spaces in the project. Your selections from the Department and Sub-Department tabs and Show All filters the display list. When you click a space type from the space types list, Space Browser opens the Spaces tab.

The filtering preferences for the Space type tab are:

  • Departments preferences are a listing of departments from your space requirements.
  • Sub-Departments preferences are a listing of sub-departments from your space requirements.
  • Show All preferences for this list are:
    • Show All lists all space types from your space requirements and from spaces placed in the building.
    • Show Placed lists the space types with at least one space placed in the building.
    • Show Unplaced lists the space types with at least one unplaced space.
    • Show Discrepancies lists the space types with at least one space whose area differs from the space plan. To set the space to the original dimensions, right-click on the space and click Use Plan Area.

Spaces

This tab displays the list of spaces as defined in your space requirements and the spaces in the project. The list is filtered based on your selections from the Department and Sub-Department, and Space Type tabs and for Show All. When you click a space from the spaces list, Space Browser displays the space, which you can drag into the building.

Filtering lists for the Spaces tab are:

  • Departments preferences are a listing of departments from your space requirements.
  • Sub-Departments preferences are a listing of sub-departments from your space requirements.
  • Space Types preferences are the space types from your space requirements.
  • Show All preferences are:
    • Show All lists all spaces from your space requirements and from spaces placed in the building.
    • Show Placed lists the spaces with at least one space placed in the building.
    • Show Unplaced lists the spaces with at least one unplaced space.
    • Show Discrepancies lists spaces whose areas differ from the space plan. To set the space to the original dimensions, right-click on the space and click Use Plan Area.
  • See properties . Click to display the Space Properties dialog box, which provides dimensional information about the space. Located in the Spaces tab next to Set color for each space, See properties is only available for spaces placed in the building.

Active Story This check box is available for each tab. It is an additional filter to the previous filters for the tab. When you select the check box, Space Browser limits the results to only items placed in the active story or unplaced spaces assigned to the active story in your space requirements.
Show/Hide



A toggle to show or hide the spaces in the building.
Set color By default, the displayed color is the RGB color set in your space requirements for the space. To change the color of a space, click Set color and set the color from the Set Color dialog box.

To set color from the Departments tab, click Set Color.

Refresh Space Plan

Updates the display in the dialog box.
All Departments

Sets the filter list back to the default. For example, for the Department filter, clicking sets the filter list back to All Departments.
