Creating Openings

You can create an opening in a planar wall of a building mass, an internal planar wall, or an external planar wall.

Note: When you place a curtain wall on the same wall as an opening, the curtain wall function retains the opening and places the curtain wall around the opening.

  1. To initiate each individual type of opening, you must log in with the Leader role.

    Only the Leader can download each type of opening catalog. Thereafter, you can log in with the Designer or Leader role and create any of the openings.

  2. Choose one of the following based on the opening location:
    • To create an opening inside the building,
      1. From the Building section of the action bar, click Activate Story .
      2. In the 3D area, click the story where you want to locate the opening.
    • To create an opening in the building mass or a curtain wall, from the action bar, click Deactivate Story .
  3. Click Openings .
  4. From Insert Component dialog box, choose one of the following:
    • To create a concept door, click Concept Door.
    • To create a concept opening, click Concept Opening.

      An example of a concept opening is a pass through window between two adjacent spaces.

    • To create a concept window, click Concept Window.
  5. To change the default dimensions for the opening, from the Position Component dialog box, enter the opening Width and Height.
  6. From the building, click the position where you want to place the opening.

    The system provides guidelines (for example, floor lines) to help with the placement.

  7. To add more openings of the same type and dimensions, click the additional locations in the building.
  8. Click .
