Creating Space

You can create a space, which is a three-dimensional volume often surrounded by walls.

  1. Activate the story where you want to locate the space.
  2. Sketch the space as follows:
    1. From the Building section of the action bar, click Positioned Sketch .

      Note: You can create a sketch using Sketcher.

    2. In the 3D area, create a sketch.
    3. In the Sketcher app, in the Sketch section of the action bar, click Exit App .
  3. To use a shape for the space:
    1. Create a sketch using a command from the Sketch section.
    2. Use a command from the Wireframe and Surface section to convert the sketch to a shape.
  4. From the Building section of the action bar, click Space .

    If a rectangle appears in the 3D area, ignore it. You can recall it later, if necessary.

  5. In the Space dialog box, click Profile .
  6. In the 3D area, click the sketch or shape serving as the basis for the space.
  7. To change the space height, drag the height handle.

    As you adjust the height, the system displays a ruler. Alternatively, enter the height in the value box.

    Note: If you selected a shape as the basis for your space, the space height is determined by the shape. The system does not display a ruler to adjust the height.

  8. To remove walls, in the Space dialog box, click Remove Walls .

    Remove Walls is a toggle. When you remove walls, the system highlights the toggle.

  9. To determine wall position, from Outside , click one of the following:
    • Outside for walls outside the space.
    • Inside for walls inside the space.
    • Both Sides for walls on both sides of the space.

    The wall positioning options are only available if you include walls.

  10. Click .

    Tip: To see an isometric view of the building, use the View Selector .

  11. To move or rotate a space:
    1. Click the space.
    2. Use the Robot to manipulate the space.

The system displays the space on the story where it is located. To see the space listing in tree, expand the story where the space is located and expand Spaces.
