Creating Labels on Wires

You can add labels to the selected line, spline, or axis system.

Before you begin: Create a line, spline, or an axis system.
  1. From the Review section of the action bar, click Wire Label .
  2. In the Wire box, select a line, arc, spline, or an axis system.
  3. In the Direction box, select a wire, plane, or axis to specify the orientation of the label.

    Click to reverse the direction.

The wire label is displayed along a tangent extension of the selected curve.

The label is displayed in a plane perpendicular or normal to the selected direction.

  4. In the Label box, specify the text for the label.
  5. To hide the label at one end of the wire, click End 1 Hide .

Note: To hide the label at the other end of the wire, click End 2 Hide .

  6. Expand Extension Line and perform the following steps:

    1. In the Length box, specify the length of the extension line.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    2. In the Gap box, specify the value of the gap between the end of the wire and the start of the label extension line.
    3. In the Text Rotation box, specify the rotation value for the label text.

  7. Expand Jog and perform the following steps:
    1. In the Offset box, specify the perpendicular distance between the wire and label.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    2. In the Start box, specify the length of the label extension line after which the jog starts.
    3. In the Angle box, specify the angle that the jog makes with the label extension line.
  8. To create asymmetrical labels at either end of the wire, perform the following steps:
    1. Clear the Mirror label check box.

By default, this check box is selected.

    2. In the End 1 Length box, specify the length of the label line on the other end.

Alternatively, drag the handle in the 3D area.

    3. In the End 1 Gap box, specify the gap between the wire and the start of the label line on the other end.
    4. In the End 1 Text Rotation box, specify the angle of rotation of the text in the label on the other end.
    5. In the End 2 Offset box, specify the perpendicular distance between the wire and the offset extension line on the other end.
    6. In the End 2 Start box, specify the length of the label extension line on the other end after which the jog starts.
    7. In the End 2 Angle box, specify the angle on the other end that the jog makes with the label extension line.
  9. Expand Display and perform the following steps:

    1. Select a color for the extension line, bubble, and text.
    2. Select a line type for the extension line from the Line type list.

    Notes:
    • To specify the default line color and line type for the label, select Me > Preferences> App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Engineering > > Display and under Structural Grid Label Defaults select the default line color and line type.
    • You can also select the Align label parallel to screen check box under Structural Grid Label Defaults in Me > Preferences> App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Multi Discipline Engineering > Buildings and Civil Structures Design > Display > Structural Grid Label Defaults .

  10. Click OK.
