Creating a Revision from an Existing Object

You can create a new revision of a structure integrating changes from another structure, that can be one of its revisions, duplicates, or branches.

With the New Revision From command, you can use the following objects to create the new revision:

  • Any revision of the selected object, in any branch of the revision family
  • Any revision of any duplicate of the selected object

This task shows you how to:

Create a Revision from an Existing Object

Before you begin: Create revisions, duplicates, or branches of the object you want to revise, that you can use as a source for the new revision.
  1. Select an object and click the command.

    The New Revision From dialog box appears. The structure of the object you selected is displayed in the Reference Structure column.

  2. If several sources for the new revision are available, in the Source Structure column, select the one you want to use for the new revision in the Revision Explorer.
  3. For each object of the structure, choose whether you want to revise, reuse, insert as new, or exclude the object.

    Important:
    • Only the Revise option is available for the root of the structure.
    • If you select the Reuse, Exclude, and Insert as new option for an object, the same option is automatically applied to its children.

  4. Click Revise.

Choose Preferences for the New Revision From Command

You can choose your preferences for the New Revision From command. These preferences apply to the command in all dashboard apps.

  1. From the toolbar at the upper-right corner of the New Revision From dialog box, click Settings .
  2. Choose your settings for the following options:

    Option Description

    Copy title from source

    Uses the title of the objects in the source structure for the new revisions.

    Display warning if access rights do not allow revising

    Displays a warning report when objects cannot be revised.

  3. Click Save.
