Duplicating Objects

The Duplicate command lets you create a copy of the selected objects.

A duplicate is a new object which content is copied from the selected object, and that behaves as if created independently. This creates a new revision family based on existing content.

Before you begin:
  • Select all connected objects together to duplicate the connections and move them to the new objects. Otherwise, the new objects will remain connected to the initial object.
  • If you duplicate a filtered object with the Duplicate command, all its children are inserted under the duplicate, regardless of the filter. To duplicate a filtered object, use the Duplicate Advanced command.
  1. Select one or several objects, and click the command.

The Summary section displays the number of duplicated objects, and Information about the size (in KB) of the representations to be duplicated (if any) that are transferred to the vault.

If you selected several objects, all the content to be duplicated is displayed as well as all required content automatically added to the scope (for example, the representation of a 3D part).

  2. Optional: Select the following options, available depending on the selected objects:

    • Whole structure: also duplicates the child objects of the selected objects
    • All Parents: duplicates all the parent nodes of the selected objects, up to the root of the tab.
Note: This option is only available when the command is started from a navigation or authoring tab.

  3. Optional: In the Naming Option section, enter the Identification String that is used to name the duplicated content. For more information about the User defined identification string option, see Duplication.
  4. To add a prefix to the title of the duplicates, enter it in the Duplication String box.
  5. Click OK.
