Services Product Lifecycle

Services Products are created and managed in the context of a Product Line and consist of any number of features. An Author user manages the lifecycle of a Services Product and Contributor users contribute to the content of the Services Product.

If the Services Product is under change control, the Change Order and Change Action control the promotion from one state to the next. If the Services Product is cancelled prior to its approval, it becomes governed by the Services Product Cancelled policy.

The Services Product lifecycle includes these states:

This page discusses:

You must have the Services Product Manager or Services Product Developer license role to create Services Products. In the Create state, the Author creates the Services Product. The Services Product can only be modified by its owner.

In the Draft state, the owner of the Services Product can perform any task. A Leader can also modify the attributes. A Contributor can add to its content.

To promote the Services Product to the Review state, it must meet these requirements:

  • All Services Specifications related to the product must be in at least the Review state.
  • All nested products must be in the Review or Released state.
  • The product classification must be set.
  • All Configuration Features must be in the Review or Released state.

At this point, the only actions that can be taken for the Services Product are to promote it to Obsolete, move it to general availability, or revise it. Reference documents can be connected to the Services Product.

The responsible Author can use Promote to GA to move the Services Product to General Availability. When done, the Services Product becomes governed by the Services Product GA policy.

Obsolete

Promoting the Services Product to the Obsolete state means that it is no longer sold. The only action that can be taken for the Services Product is to revise it.
