Use Case Lifecycle

This lifecycle controls the states through which use cases attached to test cases or requirements progress.

The Use Case lifecycle includes these states:

This page discusses:

Private

Only the Owner or use case owner can see the use case in the "Private" state. It is not visible to other members of the Collaborative Space. The Owner or use case owner can promote use cases from the "Private" state to the "In Work Approval" state (if it exists), then to the "In Work" state; or to the "In Work" state directly (if the "In Work Approval" state does not exist).

In Work Approval

Note: This is a legacy lifecycle state that exists only for use cases on systems upgraded from releases earlier than 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x. It will not exist for use cases on systems with a new installation of 3DEXPERIENCE R2017x or later releases.

In Work

The use case is created in the "In Work" state. The Owner or use case owner can demote use cases to the "In Work Approval" state (if it exists), then to the "Private" state; or to the "Private" state directly (if the "In Work Approval" state does not exist). The use case can be edited, reviewed, and approved by users with the appropriate roles when it is in the "In Work" state.

Note: Any use cases created in releases earlier than 3DEXPERIENCE R2017x that were in the "In Work Validation" state are in the "In Work" state after upgrading to 3DEXPERIENCE R2017x.

Frozen

The use case content cannot be edited once it is in the "Frozen" state.

Release

Only a user with the baseline Administrator role can demote a use case once it is in the "Release" state. In this state, the use case cannot be modified by anyone.

Obsolete

After the use case owner promotes it to the "Obsolete" state, it can no longer be used.
