Updating and Synchronizing External Links

You can update and synchronize external links in a layout. This may be useful in a collaborative environment: if your layout's design is based on external elements and if another user modify these elements, you will need to synchronize these external elements and update your design.

For more information about links, see 3D Modeling: Mechanical Systems: Assembly Design User's Guide: Links and Relations.

Before you begin:
  • Open a 3D shape representation containing a layout that points to an external elements (for example a text with an attribute linked to a knowledge parameter).
  • Open the layout in the 2D window, alongside the 3D window.
  • In the 3D shape representation, modify the external element (for example change the value of the knowledge parameter). The external link is now de-synchronized.
  1. Click Links & Relations.
  2. Select the de-synchronized link and click Synchronize.
This synchronizes the external link, and marks the pointing element (for example the text attribute) as being not-up-to-date.
  3. In the tree, right-click the layout and select Local Update.
This synchronizes the external link, and marks the pointing element (for example the text attribute) as being not-up-to-date.

The pointing element (for example the text attribute) is now updated to reflect the latest changes.

Note: Only the layout is updated. In the event the 3D shape representation itself contains links to external objects, these will not be updated.
