Breaking and Trimming Elements

You can quickly delete elements intersected by other Sketcher elements using the breaking and trimming operations.

Before you begin:

Create a sketch containing two or more intersecting features. Select the Create Detected Constraints in the Sketch section of the action bar.

  1. From the Sketch section of the action bar, click Quick Trim .
  2. Select one of the following options from the Tool Palette.

    Option Selection Result
    Break And Rubber In

The inner part of the selection is trimmed.

    Break And Rubber Out

The outer part of the selection is trimmed.

    Break And Keep

The selected feature is broken into number of intersecting elements.

Coincidence constraints are created after the trimming/breaking of the features.

    Important:
    • If you need to delete several elements, you can double-click Quick Trim and delete the elements one after the other.
    • You cannot apply Quick Trim and/or Break to composite curves (which are projected/intersected elements composed of several curves). However, you can work around this functional restriction by trimming elements (this enables you to get the same results for composite curves as by performing the Quick Trim and the Break operations).

  3. Optional: Click Free Hand Selection to select and trim multiple elements.

The following table shows the resulting trimmed geometries for different combinations of options, selected in the Tools Palette.

Tip: Press and hold Shift to move the pointer over certain parts of the sketch without considering it for trimming.
