Managing View Texts

You can create a view text while creating a view in Drafting, 2D Layout for 3D Design, Generative Functional Tolerancing, or 3D Tolerancing & Annotation. You can also configure the view text representation in detail through .xml standard files. You can enforce the creation of view texts that comply with international standards, like ISO, JIS or ASME. In addition, you can quickly position the view text according to a view's overall dimensions, so as to ensure good readability.

Add a View Text

You can create a single view text in a view (Drafting, 2D Layout for 3D Design, Generative Functional Tolerancing and 3D Tolerancing & Annotation) or in a multi-plane section view (2D Layout for 3D Design, Generative Functional Tolerancing, and 3D Tolerancing & Annotation). View texts visible in the background of a 2D layout view are generated in Drafting.

  1. Right-click a view and select XXX view object > Add View Text (Where XXX is the name of the view).

    Important:
    • You can use the Add View Text command for a selection of multiple views.
    • You cannot access this command if the selected view already contains a view text, or if the view is locked.

    The view text is filled according to the view it belongs to. The view text is always filled with the name text and the scale text:

    • If the name text and the scale text (except for Generative Functional Tolerancing and 3D Tolerancing & Annotation) are not empty.
    • If the settings or the standard specifies they must be added.

  2. In the Text Editor dialog box, enter the view text.
    This re-frames on the view's overall dimensions (including the view text).
    Note: You can modify the name of the view text feature displayed in the tree ("View Text.n") by right-clicking it and selecting Properties > Feature Properties.

Align a View Text

When a view text is created, it is aligned in the view it belongs to according to the view text's alignment standard value and the view's overall dimensions. You can adjust the position of the view text anywhere in the view it belongs to. In addition, you can align a view text to predefined locations according to the view's overall dimensions.

Notes:
  • If the view overall dimensions are empty, then the view text is positioned at the origin of the view.
  • 2D elements in the view background are not taken into account to compute the view's overall dimensions.

  1. Right-click the view text.
  2. Perform either of the following operations:

    • Select View Text.* object > Alignment > Standard.

      The view text is aligned as per defined standards.

      Note: You can also use the View Text Standard Alignment command available when you right-click a drawing, a layout, an annotation set, sheets and views to align the view texts as per standards.
    • Right-click a drawing, a layout, an annotation set, sheets and views, and select any one of the predefined locations.

Edit a View Text

You can edit a view text as any other text (provided the view is not locked), by performing the following operations:

  • Insert attribute links.
  • Isolate view texts.
    Note: In this case, all attribute links are isolated (including Name Texts and Scale Texts).
  • Edit properties of the selected text to apply a text style to turn its characters to bold, to change it to italic or to change its color, for example. You can do this in the Properties dialog box or in the Object Properties panel.
    Note: Editing view text properties lets you edit view properties (view scale, view lock, view angle...) and vice versa.
  • Delete the selected text.

  1. Right-click the view text and select View Text.* object > Definition.
  2. In the Text Editor dialog box, edit the view text.
