Creating a 3D Axis

You can create a 3D axis or an infinite line using a point selected in the 2D layout view and the support plane of the view. The line is perpendicular to the sketch support plane and goes through the selected point.


Before you begin:
  • Open a 3D shape representation containing a layout.
  • By default, the 3D Axis command is not available in any section of the action bar. To make it available, you need to customize the action bar. For more information, see Customizing an Action Bar by Adding Commands.

About 3D Outputs
  1. Double-click the design view to activate it.
  2. Create a point in the active view.
  3. From the customized section of the action bar, click 3D Axis.

    Tip: You can also right-click the point and select Point.x object > 3D Axis to create the 3D axis instantly.

    The Tools Palette appears.
  4. Enter a name for your 3D axis in the Tools Palette.
  5. Select the point in the view as shown below.


    The 3D axis, Axis2DL.1 is created, associated with the selected point and listed in the tree under the PartBody node.

    The 3D axis is also displayed in the 3D area.

    Tip: Rotate the view to make the 3D axis appear infinite.


  6. Optional: Select one or several other points.

    Several 3D axes are created in one shot per selected point. You can also create several 3D axes on a single point.

    Note: If you delete the point on which the 3D axis is created, then, a dialog box appears in which you can click Deactivate or Isolate to deactivate or isolate the created feature respectively.
