Assigning Tasks

A task assignee can be a project member or a person from outside the project. When you are assigned a task, the system notifies you. If the task is in the Preliminary state, you are not notified until it is promoted to Ready. For on-premises, notifications are sent to the recipient in an email that has a link to the task. On the cloud, you can only enable email notifications from 3DNotification settings. The delivered email notification is a text message without hyperlinks.

You also receive notification when you are removed as a task assignee. Tasks for a project template do not have owners or assignees so these sections do not apply to templates.

Task assignees can:

  • view their task and its subtasks
  • add subtasks for the task
  • edit the task and any of its subtasks they are assigned to, including the % complete and actual finish date
  • route the task
  • add assignees and remove assignees including removing themselves, only if having lead access on the project. If a user creates a task under an assigned task, they cannot add an assignee or delete a created task if they do not have lead access on the project.
  • manage dependencies, bookmarks, deliverables, and risks for the task

Task assignees with Project Lead access cannot add/remove/edit assignees to tasks in the In Review status.
