Splitting Shapes

You can cut a shape with an intersecting surface or plane, and keep one or both sides of the shape.

You cannot cut a surface with another surface.

  1. Select a face of the shape to split.
  2. From a different Natural Shape, Ctrl + select the surface or plane used for splitting.

    Natural Shape features can be located in different 3D parts. You can also use a surface or plane of an external app feature as the splitting element.

  3. Click Split .
  4. Select the side to keep.

    Select positive side only
    Select negative side only
    Keep both sides

    If you select Keep Both Sides, a new Natural Shape feature containing one of the sides is added to the tree.

  5. If the splitting element does not completely intersect the shape, specify how to extend the boundary edges of the splitting element.
    • G2 Extrapolation of the Splitting Element (default option): maintains curvature continuity when extending boundary edges.

    • G1 Extrapolation of the Splitting Element : maintains tangent continuity when extending boundary edges.

    • No Extrapolation of the Splitting Element .

    Note: If the splitting element does not intersect the shape at all, all boundary edges are extended.
