Persistent vs. Non-persistent Measures

Persistent measures are measures that are added in the tree and that are saved along with the markup or 3D shape representation. Non-persistent measures are quick measures taken at a specific point in time, that leave no trace. They are neither added in the tree nor saved.

Measure commands are available in the Review section of the action bar for Design Synthesis and Design Review, and in the Tools section of the action bar for other apps. It is the context which determines whether or not the measure is persistent.

Persistent measures are created in the following contexts:

  • In Design Review and Design Synthesis: in an active and editable markup.
  • In other apps: in an editable 3D shape representation or product markup.

Non-persistent measures are taken in the following contexts:

  • In Design Review and Design Synthesis: if no markup is activated, or if the markup is not editable.
  • In other apps: if the 3D shape representation cannot be edited, or no markup is activated or the markup is not editable
  • In a simulation context: during a replay for example.
