Viewing the Current Selection

You can make the current selection by selecting one or more objects. The Current Selection command enables you to see the geometry and tree views of the current selection.

For a description of the various selection techniques, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps: Selecting Objects.

Before you begin: Add the Current Selection command in any of the sections of the action bar.

For more information, see Customizing Sections in the Action Bar.

  1. In the work area or in the tree, select one or more objects.

The visualization in the Current Selection dialog box is now the same regardless of where and how you selected the objects:

    • in the tree.
    • in the work area (the object displayed will be either the selected object itself or the selected object's first parent visible in the tree).
    • in the work area with products selection activated.
    • while working in visualization mode.
    • while working in design mode.

  2. Click Current Selection .
The Current Selection dialog box appears. It indicates all selected objects and contains two tabs, enabling you to visualize either the tree or 3D view of your current selection.
Important: When you select objects, it is recommended that you select them in the main window, even though it is possible to select them in the Current Selection dialog box.
  3. Select the Freeze check box to freeze the contents of the dialog box on the current selection.
  4. In the Tree tab of the Current Selection dialog box, select an object. The object is highlighted in the tree. Note that the Current Selection dialog box content is not updated because the Freeze check box is selected.
  5. Clear the Freeze check box. The dialog box is updated and now displays only the last selected object.
  6. Select the Reframe on selection check box to fit the selection into the available space in the work area.
  7. Select the View related objects check box to navigate through the objects linked to the current selection.
    Notes:
    • The View related objects check box is available only if at least one of the selected objects has links to other objects. If the set of selected objects does not have any links, then View Related Objects will be disabled. The Products Selection command enables you to select an object that has such links.
    • It is also possible to multi-select elements when using the View related objects option.
    • Relationships identified are parents, any children or connected objects and relationships between objects. Products, simulations and reviews are taken into account. These relationships could sometimes be different from the parent relationships visible in the tree.
  8. The following scenario illustrates the rule that elements in the 3D tab of the Current Selection dialog box are displayed with their own attributes (e.g. color, texture, materials, position, etc.), that they do not inherit attributes from their parent element. Change a 3D Shape to design mode (right-click the 3D Shape and select Shape object > Edit) and then expand its product structure.
  9. Modify the color property of the selected 3D Shape Representation.
The modified color is reflected in the 3D tab of the Current Selection dialog box.
  10. In the tree, select the product root.
The color modified in step 9 is still reflected in the Current Selection dialog box.
  11. In the tree, select the same 3D Shape geometry.
The Current Selection dialog box reflects that the representation has not inherited the modified color.
