About Exporting Sections

Sections, or more precisely, the result of sectioning operations, can be exported as new 3D shape or drawing representations, or into an existing product or 3D representation.

This topic provides miscellaneous information about exporting sections.

  • Hidden sections can be exported.
  • If you multiselect sections before performing an export operation, only the section you last selected is exported.
  • If you make geometry changes and then export a section, the exported section is not updated.
  • You cannot export to an existing product or 3D shape representation in visualization (authoring) mode. If you attempt to do so, a message appears in the status bar, informing you that export cannot be performed in unloaded geometry.
  • The Export To command is not available when the review mode is activated. Unlike the Export To command, the Export As command is available when the review mode is activated (via Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Social and Collaborative > Global Design Management > Collaborative Lifecycle > Content Access> Open). For more information, see Open.
  • If you specified an identification string in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Social and Collaborative > Global Design Management > Collaborative Lifecycle > Content Access> Identification), a specific prefix is added to all new PLM objects. This is reflected in the name of the representation which is created as the result of the export operation. For more information about identification and creation preferences, see Identification.
