Smoothing Test Data

You can smooth a set of test data to achieve a cleaner curve before you use the data for calibrating a material response.

About Test Data Processing
  1. From the Calibration Tools section of the action bar, click Calibration Setup .
  2. From the Test data sets section of the Calibration setup dialog box, double-click the name of the test data feature you want to edit.
  3. Click Smooth.
The Smooth options appear above the test data plot.
  4. Optional: From the Range options, do either of the following to specify the range of x-values within which you want to smooth the test data:
    • In the Range fields, enter the minimum and maximum values of the range.
    • Drag the blue vertical lines in the chart so that they contain the range within which you want to smooth data points.

The app determines the range by the quantity plotted along the x-axis of the chart. You can change the x-axis quantity at any time; however, doing so resets the range.

  5. In the Polynomial order field, specify the order of the polynomial equation to use for smoothing. You can enter a value from 0 to 9.
  6. In the Window size field, specify the number of points to use for the polynomial fitting window.
  7. In the Num iterations field, specify the number of times the app repeats the smoothing operation.
  8. Click Evaluate.
The plot adds a green preview curve to indicate where the data will appear after the smoothing process.
Important: Performing an evaluation always replaces the previous result.
  9. Click .

Tip: You can also cancel the shift without making any changes by clicking .

The app replaces the test data set with the smoothed data points and reflects the updated data set in the Test Data dialog box.
