Creating Materials

You can use the New Content dialog box or the Create Material command to create a material.

Note: Materials loaded in session remain in session even after closing editors. Any unsaved modification will persist when the user reopens the material or structure from the database. You can remove the materials in session by unpinning them in the Material Browser.

Create Materials as New Content

You can use the New Content dialog box to create materials.

  1. In the top bar, select Add > Content.
  2. Under the Materials category of the New Content dialog box, select a material type.
    The material appears in the tree and in the Material Browser.

Create Materials Using the Create Material Command

You can use the Create Material command to create materials.

Before you begin: From the top bar, select Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > Material Definition > Material Browser > Allow creating or completing vectors at apply.
  1. From the Material Tools section of the action bar, click Create Material .
  2. In the Core Materials and Covering Materials areas:
    1. In the Title box of the Create Material dialog box, enter a name.

      If you do not enter a name, a default name is given to the material.

    2. Enter the number of materials to create.
    3. In the Add domains list, select one or more domains.
      Important: You need the required license for the selected domain.
    Depending on the app you work in, the Edit Domain dialog box appears and the materials open in the Material Definition app.
    Notes:
    • To edit material domains, right-click a material in the Material Browser and then select Edit Domains.
    • To modify the name of a material, right-click a material in the Material Browser and then select Rename.
