Creating Substances

You can create substances that can be used in materials.

Required access roles:

  • Baseline: Owner
  • On premises only: App-specific: Compliance Administrator

  1. From the top bar, click Add > Materials Compliance > Create Substance.
  2. Enter details about the substance:
    Field NameDescription
    Substance NameThe name of the substance.
    TypeThe type of substance. Click to select a subtype.
    CAS NumberThe CAS number of the substance.
    EC NumberA substance identifier used as an alternative to the CAS number.
    IMDS State The IMDS state of the substance. This field displays only if ELV data management is installed. You can choose Active, Deleted, Hidden, or Unassigned.
    IMDS Node IDThe IMDS node ID of the substance. This field displays only if ELV data management is installed.
    DescriptionA description of the substance.
    REACH Reg Status Indicates whether the substance has been registered for REACH.
    REACH Pre-Reg StatusIndicates whether the substance has been pre-registered for REACH.
    OwnerThe owner for the substance. Click to select the person who is the owner.
    PolicyThe policy for the substance. Select a policy from the drop-down list.
    VaultThe vault containing the substance object. Click to select a different vault.
    Substance ClassificationThe substance classification. Only one classification can be selected.
  3. Click Done.

To complete the definition of the substance, add it to a material and use the Component Substances category for the material to define these attributes of the substance:

  • Target Weight
  • Weight Unit of Measure
  • Intentionally Added
  • Compliance Type and applications
