Creating a Compliance Definition

You can create compliance definitions.

Your Business Administrator can create a compliance definition using the default configuration file as a starting point. Once a compliance configuration file is modified or a new one created, it must be imported into Materials Compliance Management as described in Importing Data.

Required access roles:

  • Baseline: Author, Leader, Owner
  • App-specific: Compliance Engineer

  1. From the top bar, click Add > Materials Compliance > Create Compliance Definition.
  2. Enter the following fields:
    Field Name Description
Name The name of the compliance definition.
Type The type of object, usually "Compliance Definition".
Policy The policy to govern the compliance definition.
Compliance Type The type of compliance, for example, "ELV", "JAMP AIS", "Packaging", "REACH", or "RoHS".
Product/Process Scope Defines if the compliance definition applies to "Product Only" or "Process Only".
Description A description of the compliance definition.
Application Scope Type Defines the set of parts that apply to the compliance definition.

    Scope Value Description
All The compliance definition is scoped for all the parts connected to the context part
Component Level - In Scope Compliance calculations include parts with the specified scope application
Product Level - In Scope Compliance calculations include products with the specified scope application
Component level - Out of Scope Compliance calculations exclude parts that have the specified scope application.
Product level - Out of Scope Compliance calculations exclude products that have the specified scope application.

Rollup Indicates whether the compliance definition is rolled up. "Yes" can only be specified for an enterprise-level compliance definition (uses the Compliance Definition (Enterprise) policy).
Threshold Type Used in part level threshold tests to determine whether substance or substance classification amounts exceed a threshold:

If the threshold type is Minimum Rejected, then the threshold is exceeded if the amount of the substance/substance classification is greater than or equal to the threshold.

If the threshold type is Maximum Allowed, then the threshold is exceeded if the amount of the substance/substance classification is greater than the threshold.

  3. Click Done.

The app creates the Compliance Definition in the inactive state. To complete the definition, you need to perform these tasks:

  • Add thresholds for substances
  • Add thresholds for substance classifications
  • Add exemptions
