About the Material Palette Interface

The Material Palette enables you to browse for materials, research their attributes, compare them, and apply them to components of your model.

It offers several methods for navigating through the database to select the materials you want to use in your simulation.

Note: The Material Palette provides a read-only view of material data. If you want to add new materials, duplicate them, or edit material behavior data in the simulation domain, refer to the See Also topics.

The following image shows the Material Palette with a number indicating each main component. Hover over parts of the dialog box to see the name for that section. Click any blue-bordered area for more information.

Tree Hierarchy and Material Details
Displays a hierarchical tree of the materials available to you in the database or, when you select a material, information about a single material.
See Tree Hierarchy and Material Details.

Search Options
Enables you to display the subset of materials that match your search criteria.
See Search Options.

Recent Materials and In-session Materials
Displays either the subset of materials you most recently applied to models or the subset of materials that are open in your session.
See Recent Materials and In-session Materials.

Material Comparison
Enables you to display the attributes of two to four materials side by side, which can enable you to choose the material that is most suitable for your simulation.
See Material Comparison.
