Creating and Accessing Custom Methods for Automated FEMs

You can create a custom method for producing a finite element model. Custom methods give you control over the procedures, inputs, and parameters for a FEM.


Before you begin: Create a custom method as discussed in Automated FEM User Methods.

About Custom Automated FEM Methods
  1. From the top bar, click Add > New Content.
  2. Select Document > Engineering Document.
  3. Select the .xml document that contains your custom method.
  4. From the 3DCompass, click Data Setup.
    The Data Setup app opens.
  5. For the Display Filter, enter Automated FEM Methods.
  6. Right-click to open the context menu, and select Create a new Resource Table.

    The resource table becomes the container for any custom methods you add.

    The Resource Set dialog box appears.
  7. Enter a Title for the resource table.

    Choose a logical name (for example, Methods) that makes sense for your process.

  8. Click OK.
    The Resource Set closes.
  9. Right-click the Resource column, and select Choose the assigned resource.
    The Select a Business Rule dialog box appears.
  10. Select the engineering document that you added earlier.

    Tip: You can search for your document using this format: vpmdoc:filename.

  11. Click OK.
    The Select a Business Rule dialog box closes.
  12. Press Ctrl + S to save.

The method appears in the Automated FEM panel, under My Methods.
