About Nonstructural Masses

You can add nonstructural masses to a model to account for mass and inertia of components that do not add stiffness to the structure. Once their mass is accounted for, these components can be modeled as rigid bodies or left out of the simulation model entirely.

A mass per unit length distributes a nonstructural mass over the length of a beam.

A mass per unit area distributes a nonstructural mass over the area of a two-dimensional region.

A mass per unit volume distributes a nonstructural mass over the volume of a solid region.
