-
		  Do either of the following:

			 - To create a
				mesh
				group in the
				Groups container, select the
				Group section of the
				action bar
				and click
				Manual Group
				 . .
- To create a mesh group under a mesh, right-click the mesh in
				the
				tree
				and select
				.

  The
Manual Group dialog box and the
			 Select toolbox appear.

- Optional:
		  Enter a
			 Name for the group.

-
Select the type of entity that is stored in the mesh group—nodes, element
edges, element faces, or elements. A mesh group can contain only one type of
					entity.

-
		  Select
Add Mode to add your selection to the group.

-
Select entities to add them to the mesh group.

The Select toolbox enables you to choose a selection method for
					adding entities. Note:
The available methods depend on the type of
entity chosen in Step 3. | Method | Description |
|---|
 | | Selects entities manually. This method is the default
selection option and the only method for edge selection. |
|---|

						| | Selects the entities that are entirely within a bounding
polygon. | | | Selects the entities that are within a bounding polygon and any entities that are
							intersected by the polygon. |
|---|

						| | Selects the entities that are entirely within a bounding polygon
that are visible and non-visible entities. |
						| | Selects the entities that are within a bounding polygon that are
							visible and non-visible entities. |
						| | Selects the entities that are entirely within a bounding
box. | | | Selects the entities that are within a bounding box and any
entities that are intersected by the box. |
|---|

						| | Selects the entities that are entirely within a bounding box that
are visible and non-visible entities. |
						| | Selects the entities that are within a bounding box that are visible
and non-visible entities. | | | Selects a group of element edges by propagation. You can
specify the propagation criteria using either of the following methods:
Select by edge angle < and specify an angle. When you click
										Propagate, any edges that are
connected to the selected edges by an angle smaller than the
specified angle are included in the mesh group. Select by face angle > and specify an angle. When you click
										Propagate, any edges that are
connected to the selected edges by an angle greater than the
specified angle are included in the mesh group. This method
enables you to select edges around 3D holes and sharp edges. |
|---|
 | | Selects a group of 2D elements or a group of faces from 3D elements by propagation.
Select entities, specify the propagation angle in the by
								angle < box, and click
Propagate. Any entities that are connected to
the selected entities by an angle smaller than the specified angle are
included in the mesh group. |
|---|
 | | Selects a group of nodes around a 2D hole. |
|---|
 | | Selects a group of element edges around a 2D hole. |
|---|
 | | Selects a group of elements around a 2D hole. When you click
Propagate, any elements that are connected to
the selected elements are included as a second layer in the mesh group. |
|---|
 | | Selects a neighborhood of elements (a group of elements
that border your selected elements). For element faces, the neighborhood
includes elements that share an edge with your selection; for elements, the
neighborhood includes elements that share a face with your selection. |
|---|
 | | Selects elements that are bad
according to mesh quality settings so that you can review, edit, or repair
				  them. |
|---|

 The selected entities are highlighted.

-
If your selection includes mesh entities that you do not want to
include in the group, do the following:

			 -
				Select
				  Remove Mode.

-
Select entities to remove from the mesh group.

Highlighting is removed from the selected entities.

-
To make the group eligible for use with simulation connections, do not select
Include connection elements. This works for both
groups in the Groups container and groups under a mesh.

					 Note:
Connections are defined in the Structural Model Creation
						app.
-
		  Click one of the following:

			 - OK to save your selections and to
close the dialog box. To generate and visualize the group, you must update it.

- Update to save your selections, close
the dialog box, and update the group.

- Cancel to cancel the modifications and
				to close the dialog box.

 If you click
			 OK or
Update, the group is created and appears in
			 the
			 tree.
In addition, for native solves, the group appears immediately in
			 post-processing. In
			 Physics Results Explorer,
the new group can be viewed directly in the model, in the specification
			 tree,
			 and listed in the
Display Groups dialog box under the
			 Groups item.

Note:
When you use mesh groups as supports, the symbol positioning is intended only to
indicate support for the feature. The feature symbols might not cover the mesh
region as they do for a similar geometry region.
