You can split a shell section by thickness and offset to create a single shell section that averages the actual thickness and offset values in adjoining sections.

About Shell Sections Split by Thickness and Offset
  1. From the Properties section of the action bar, click Shell Section .
  2. From the Thickness options, select From solid.
  3. Expand the Advanced section.
  4. Select Split by thickness and offset to generate groups of properties for a surface instead of thickness and offset distributions with uniform field variables (the default) in the Abaqus input file for the simulation. This option causes the field variable distribution of the shell section to be split up in the Abaqus input file based on the thickness and offset range you specify below in Interval. See About Shell Sections Split by Thickness and Offset for more details.
  5. In the Interval field, specify the interval of geometry thickness and offset values to use in grouping the shell sections. The app bases the grouping on the minimum thickness or offset found in the solid and the thickness or offset range you specify.
  6. Select Roundoff to round off the thickness or offset values before grouping.
  7. Click OK.
