About Part Float for MBOM

The steps below describe the sequence of events that occur when you generate and update an MBOM.

A New Revision is Added to a Parent MBOM that Includes an Old Revision

When a new revision of a part is released, the MBOM will be generated and updated but the new revision doesn’t float to the parent in the MBOM to replace the old revision if the revision in the EBOM is not floated.

Note: This is similar to adding a new revision of an existing part to an EBOM in Engineering BOM Management.

MBOM Float to a Parent when the EBOM Floats to the Latest Revision

When an EBOM latest revision is floated, MBOM also will be updated by floating the new revision in the MBOM to replace the old revision. A new MCO will be generated to float the newly floated EBOM revision in the MBOM. A new MBOM revision will be created for latest revision that is floated. A new manufacturing responsibility sequence also will be generated and listed in the Manufacturing Details category for the latest revision that is floated.

Plants Assigned for EBOMs with Child Part Revisions

Manufacturing Responsibility can be assigned for an EBOM only if all the EBOM child parts have been updated to their latest revisions. If one or more of the child parts has a later version than what is in the EBOM, the EBOM cannot be assigned to a plant.
