Editing Part Bill of Materials - MBOM Plant-Specific

The bill of materials MBOM Plant-Specific view shows all parts to be included when manufacturing an assembly. Depending on your access, you can edit all or part of plant-specific an BOM. Only manufacturing parts can be added or modified in MBOM Plant-Specific view. You must be a member of the selected plant.


Before you begin:

Find the part by clicking Search from the top bar. For details, see About Searches. From the list of parts, click the highlighted link in the Name column of the part you want to view, or click at the end of the row to view the Properties page in a new browser window.

  1. Click the Bill of Materials category.
  2. Click the MBOM Plant-Specific tab.

    The table is configurable, so your organization’s BOMs may show different information. See The Plant-Specific MBOM.

  3. Access the MBOM Plant-Specific view. See About Part Bill of Materials - MBOM Plant-Specific View.
  4. Click to search for specific parts within a list of all connected primary and secondary parts.
  5. From the page toolbar, click Edit All. The button name toggles to View All to permit you to return to view mode.

    You can expand or collapse each part level of the BOM by clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons to the left of the part name or, from the page toolbar, click Expand All to expand all parts or click Expand n levels to select the number of levels to expand, or select one of the following:

    • All. Shows BOM assemblies in all levels of the BOM hierarchy above the part.
    • End Item. The BOM is searched up to the level of the first end item in each branch. If no end item is available in a given level of a branch, the search is continued up to the highest level. Only the first end item in each branch is displayed.

    Note: Though you can view all levels of the BOM in MBOM Plant-Specific view, you can make changes to only one level at a time.

  6. Click to open the Refinements panel to select filter options. In edit mode, you can change the Context Change filter:
    1. Click to select a Context Change MCO to govern the plant-specific MBOM modifications. The search results include all MCOs in the Create state. Select an MCO and click Submit. This filter selection is mandatory for plant-specific MBOM modifications.
    2. Click Filter.

    After you close the Refinement slide in, the subheader is updated with the selection criteria, including the information about the plant for the current view. The selection criteria in also shown in the subheader of the Printer friendly and Export pages.

  7. Make modifications, as necessary. When you add or edit a part, you must include for that part the find number and/or reference designator, also the part quantity.

    • Find numbers must be unique at a given BOM level.
    • The number of reference designators and the quantity must be equal.
    • The following can be modified for manufacturing parts: Find Number, Reference Designator, Quantity, Component Location.
    • The following can be modified for manufacturing parts or for EC parts that are alternates/substitutes: Stype, Auth Status, Pref Rank.
    • The following can be modified for all part types: Usage, Mfg Notes

  8. To quickly change the same attribute for many first-level BOM parts, you can use the Mass Update menu.
    1. From the Mass Update menu, select the attribute you want to change.
    2. In the field that the BOM displays, type the new value for the attribute.
    3. Click Apply to Selected to apply the change only to checked parts or click Apply to All to apply the change to all parts.
  9. Select one or more options from the page Actions menu or toolbar as needed. See Action Menu and Toolbar.
  10. Do one of the following:
    • Click Save to update all changes made in the BOM.
    • Click Reset to undo all changes to selected items. Recent modifications will be lost and reset to previously saved data.
  11. To work with the BOM in view mode, click the View All button in the toolbar. The button name toggles to Edit All to permit you to return to edit mode. See About Part Bill of Materials - MBOM Plant-Specific View
