Creating Indirect Connections

You can create indirect connections using an intermediate or smart component. An indirect connection involves joining two or more components using a smart component. The following task describes the steps involved to make an indirect connection between two components using a smart component.

  1. Create a mechanical interface template. See Creating a Mechanical Interface Template.

This mechanical interface template is later instantiated on the components to be joined and the smart component.

  2. Create the smart component and its skeleton. See Creating the Smart Component and its Skeleton.
  3. Instantiate the template on the skeleton. See Instantiating the Template on the Skeleton.
  4. Create an engineering connection between the smart component and its skeleton. See Connecting the Smart Component and the Skeleton.
  5. Create an engineering template for the smart component. See Creating an Engineering Template for the Smart Component.
  6. Create business rules for the connection.
  7. Instantiate the template on the components to be joined. For more information, see Part Design User's Guide: Working with Mechanical Interfaces: Instantiating a Simple Mechanical Interface Template.
  8. Connect the components. See Assembly Design User's Guide: Interface connections.
